Four PKK terrorists were killed and a security guard was martyred during a counterterrorism operation in eastern Agri province Thursday, according to the regional governor’s office Friday.

The casualties took place during a gunfight between security forces and PKK terrorists in Dogubayazit district’s Gungoren village.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
