“We want our Kurdish and Arab brothers to live in peace, tranquility, and security. We’re ready to this anything for it. If necessary, we’re ready to sacrifice our souls fighting side by side in the same land for the sake of unity and brotherhood,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in his speech at "2017-2018 Academic Year Opening Ceremony".
Erdogan noted that Turkey is powerful enough to fight against all the threats.
“We prefer the peaceful resolution of this issue. Otherwise, we will not abstain from our capabilities. They should not forget that we have sufficient power. We’re in talks with Iraqi Kurdistan about economic cooperation, security, and other issues. I hope that none of these will be needed. Hopefully, Iraqi Kurdistan will come to its senses and give up on this dark adventure,” he stressed.
On September 25, the Kurdish autonomy in northern Iraq held an independence referendum in which 3,305,925 voters took part. The Iraqi government called the referendum illegal. The results of the referendum will be announced tonight.
