David Friedman, the United States ambassador to Israel, said last night, from 19 to 20 September, that with the coming to power of the administration of President Donald Trump, a new page was opened in relations between the US and Israel.
"The president was very strong," Friedman told a Channel 7 correspondent, expressing his attitude to the speech of the US president at the UN General Assembly. "He made it clear how the US is going to protect its allies, defend its values, and not wait 10 years to solve the problem, if it can be solved right now."
Friedman also said that he agrees with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called Trump's speech "bold and sharp."
Asked whether he believed that Trump was going to cancel the "nuclear deal" (concluded by Iran in 2015 with the powers of the West), the ambassador replied: "I do not know. This is his decision to do or not to do so. I do not want to speak for him. "
Turning to the relationship between the United States and Israel after Trump took office, Friedman was more verbose: "I think you [yourself] saw the opening of a new page. These are completely different attitudes, which, I think, are pro-Israel. And, I hope, not just pro-Israel, but also guard values that unite the United States and Israel. "
"Shana Tov u-Metuk. Ktiv Ve-Hatima Tov, "he concluded, welcoming the Jewish people in Hebrew on the eve of the Great Holidays.
