Hungary does not want to be a country of immigrants

Hungary requires the EU to respect its desire not to be a multiethnic country, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said after meeting with Polish Prime Minister Beata Shidlo in Warsaw on September 22.

"In Europe, a new situation has come. It is very expressive that Europe is divided into two groups - the countries that have become immigrant are basically former colonial countries - and non-immigrant countries that want to solve their demographic problems through their family policy, "RIA Novosti quotes Orban.

"We do not want to become an immigrant country. But now immigrant countries want us to become the same, "he added.

"We are responsible for the future of the Hungarians, including those who have not yet been born. We do not want them to leave an immigrant country as a heritage. We do not criticize immigrant countries, but we demand that we respect our position, "the Hungarian prime minister said. "We do not want to become an emigrant country. We do not want a mixed population. We are looking for another way out, "he concluded.

In turn, Shidlo said that the premieres of the two countries have a common position with regard to the European migration crisis.

"The form of opposition to illegal migration chosen by our governments turned out to be correct. The main goal is the safety of citizens, "the Polish prime minister said.

Recently, the European Court rejected the claims of Hungary and Slovakia demanding the abolition of national quotas for the resettlement of refugees that are mandatory for EU member states. The court decided that this mechanism effectively and proportionately helps Greece and Italy cope with the consequences of the migration crisis of 2015. Poland refused to accept refugees on its territory.

Hungary and Slovakia challenged the decision of September 22, 2015, which obliges EU members to accept 120,000 refugees arriving in Greece and Italy in order to reduce migration pressure on these two states. Against this decision voted Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Finland abstained. In support of the position of Hungary and Slovakia during the proceedings, Poland acted, while Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, France, Sweden and the European Commission supported the EU Council.
