The American Jewish organization Gershon Jacobson Jewish Continuity Foundation awarded President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman with the prize "Freedom Fighter".
The head of state received the award in New York, at a gala evening organized by the Jewish edition of The Algemeiner.
Currently, Milos Zeman is in the United States on an official visit.
The above-mentioned organization praised Zeman's constant desire to support Israel and develop Czech-Israeli relations. For example, in 2015, Zeman said "I am the Jew", paraphrasing John Kennedy's famous saying "I am a Berliner". Also, Zeman offered to transfer the Czech embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
In his speech at the award ceremony, Zeman said: "Verbal solidarity is not enough. We need concrete actions, not just words. Unconditional solidarity with Israel and the Jews is needed. It could be expressed in the transfer of embassies of democratic countries from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. "
Recall, Jerusalem was proclaimed by the Israeli authorities as the capital of the state in 1949, but most states do not recognize this decision.
