The request for citizenship of South Ossetia to the President of the Republic, Anatoly Bibilov, was addressed by people from the republic living in Israel.
The community delegation arrived in Tskhinval on September 14 for the first time after the war in South Ossetia of the early 1990s. Those events forced Tskhinvali Jews to leave their hometown.
"Our connection with Ossetia did not cease for a day. Despite the fact that we left here during the war in the 90s, we want to regain our citizenship in order to feel like part of South Ossetia again. We have the right to that, "said community member Elion Vilenchik.
The head of state noted that about 5,000 people are expected to obtain citizenship of South Ossetia and explained that to obtain a South Ossetian passport it is necessary to file an application and collect the necessary documents while observing all the rules.
"There are laws in every state. In order not to violate the order and rules of obtaining citizenship, it will take time. I think it is wrong, to bypass those people who have long been waiting for citizenship and to speed up the issuance of yours. Write a statement, and we will consider it, "Bibilov said.
During the meeting, Vilenchik told the president about the impressions of members of the community from changes in the capital of South Ossetia.
"During our absence a lot has been done. We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the architectural buildings - this is the European level, "he said.
Members of the community asked the president to help them restore the Jewish cemetery and synagogue. The head of state promised to consider this issue.
