On the Day of the City and in honor of the 18th Elul holiday - the birthday of the founder of the Hasidism of Baal Shem Tov and the first Lubavitch Rabbi Shneur-Zalman - in the Dnepr on September 10, an opening ceremony was held after the restoration of the prayer hall of the historic synagogue on Kotsiubynsky Street, known as "Altershil" ("Old synagogue").
In the building, built in the late XIX century, restored a unique painting of the prayer hall, lost in the 90s during the renovation of the building.
At a solemn ceremony in the courtyard of the historic synagogue, Rabbi Zeev Vinogradov, the head of the Dobre Maybutne Foundation, said that the restoration of the interior took several months and turned out to be a very difficult task. He told about how archival photos and videos were collected, on which fragments of murals were recorded, how the brigade under the direction of Stanislav Bogomaz performed these complex decorative works, and complained that, unfortunately, it was not possible to restore the exact shape of the former prayer hall in many details, but, in any case, made a significant approximation to the original interior.
The honor to attach mezuzah to the entrance to the renovated hall was given to the chief rabbi of the Dnieper and the region Shmuel Kamenetsky.
