Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations elected representative of the Western European group, which will help to formulate the agenda of the General Assembly
With the opening of the LXXII session of the United Nations General Assembly this week, Israeli Ambassador Dani Danon began to serve as Vice-President of the General Assembly of this world representative body.
Thus, Danon will preside for the first time at the session of the General Assembly, when, on the following Tuesday (September 19), Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will address the UN member states.
The Israeli was elected to this post as a representative of a regional group of Western European countries (WEOG).
In addition, in addition to chairing the meetings of the General Assembly, Danone will take part in determining the agenda of this top deliberative, decision-making and representative body of the United Nations, and will monitor rules and norms of conduct during sessions.
"I am proud to represent Israel in this important role, which strengthens our position as an equal member of the UN," Danon said.
"We have once again proved that we can fulfill any role in the most important international organization in the world," the ambassador of our country added.
Recall that last year Danone was elected chairman of the UN Legal Committee, and this was the first time that the Israeli representative was the head of the standing committee of the United Nations.
