

On Friday, September 1, 2 million 272 thousand students and 180 thousand teachers will go to Israel schools. 163 thousand children will become first-graders.
On the eve of the new academic year, the Ministry of Education opens an information center. It will be located in the Rothschild Hall in the building of the Ministry of Education at Jerusalem, Shivtei Yisrael Street 29. The center will be open on Thursday, August 31, from 18 to 22 hours, and on Friday, September 1, from 6:30 to 9:30.
In the center, parents, students and teachers will be able to get information on issues related to the beginning of the school year. Information centers will also work in the districts.
The new academic year opens with the sign of major reforms. Among them - a program for studying spoken English, a group of extended-day "Nitzanim", the emergence of a second assistant teacher in kindergartens, reducing the number of students in grades 1-3, a program for students with problems with concentration, studying mathematics at five units in the periphery, expanding differential financing.
One of the tasks of the Ministry of Education for the next five years is to increase the number of pupils who live in the periphery, studying mathematics by five, from 7 to 14%. The number of students studying English for four and five units is planned to rise from 47 to 65%.
From September the subsidized groups of the extended day "Nitzanim" will start to work for pupils of kindergartens and students of the 1st and 2nd grades. This program is allocated 1.3 billion shekels.
The number of students in grades 1-3 will be reduced to 28 on average. It is also planned to involve a second teacher-student in teaching. The program will operate in two thousand classes. Arab schoolchildren will learn Hebrew as a compulsory subject, starting with the kindergarten. Also this year a special program will operate in connection with Israel's 70-year anniversary. +
