At a conference to be held tomorrow in an academic institution in the center of Israel, a plan to strengthen the status of the teacher's profession will be presented.
The initiator of the event is the former Minister of Education Gideon Saar. According to the press service of the Saar, the goal of the conference is to lay the groundwork for new ideas, as well as to discuss the processes and necessary changes in the sphere of education.
In addition, the conference will present a plan to strengthen the status of the teacher's profession.
The plan was developed by a special commission consisting of three former directors of the Ministry of Industry - Dalit Stauber, Zulon Orlev and Dr. Shimshon Shushani. Gideon Saar led the commission.
Her conclusions will be handed over to the president of the state, the head of government and the minister of education.
The strategic plan consists of 12 items, including the requirement that the government announce the task of strengthening the status of teachers and educators as an important national and social goal.
In order to achieve this goal, efforts should be made by all departments, including local authorities.
The most important points of this program are:
1) Approval of the law on the "status of the teacher", which, in addition to regulation, will establish minimum requirements for the future teacher.
2) Toughering the conditions for obtaining a diploma of a teacher: to work in the school you need to get the first and second academic degree. The general process of preparation will last four years.
3) The opening of the program "Cadets of public education". Candidates after careful selection will be able to study for a teacher and receive a diploma for free, in addition, they will receive a good scholarship and a guaranteed place of work after graduation. They are required to give a commitment to work in the education system for seven years.
4) Salary. A novice teacher should receive eight thousand shekels a month (the salary increase budget is half a billion shekels). The average salary in Israel is ten thousand shekels, and today the teacher must work 13 years to receive such a sum. It is necessary to shorten this period to seven years
