Salaries of teachers in recent years have grown strongly

The department of the Chief Economist of the Ministry of Finance published a weekly report.

Among other things, the new report presented on the official website of the department was dedicated to the subject: the level of teachers' salaries in Israel, taking into account the beginning of the new academic year.

The report indicates that the primary factor for attracting the most qualified, educated and gifted teachers in the school system is the initial salary, and not its increase as it goes on.

Over the past ten years, teachers' salaries in Israel have increased substantially. The chief economist of the Ministry of Finance, analyzing the data provided by the Central Statistical Bureau, points out that the average salary of teachers grows faster than the average Israeli salary and substantially exceeds it. He connects this fact with the implementation of the reforms "Ofek Hadash" and "Oz le-Tmura", which were held in the educational system of Israel in recent years.

GROWTH OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR TEACHERS

However, in Israel there is a significant gap between the wages of beginning teachers and the salaries of their colleagues who have worked in teaching for many years, the most significant difference being in primary schools. The reason for this is a significant increase in the salaries of teachers in the later stages of the career (over 10 years of teaching). The latest agreements with Histadrut on teachers' wages are gradually correcting this discrepancy, and the chief economist in his report points out that this trend must also be observed in future agreements.

By the ratio of the average salary of teachers to the average salary of people with higher education in the OECD, Israel ranks sixth. It is headed by Luxembourg, followed by Greece, Belgium, Finland, Germany and Israel.
