Hospitals require the permission of rabbis for ligation of the fallopian tubes

The Ministry of Health is checking information that at least two Israeli hospitals for women before the operation for ligation of the fallopian tubes demanded the permission of "hospital rabbis".

According to the Jerusalem Post, we are talking about the Leniado Hospital in Netanya and the Maanei Ha-Yeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak. This operation is prohibited by the Halacha and is permitted under Jewish law only in cases of danger to the life of a woman.

In Laniado, only Jewish women were sent to the rabbi, who were going to undergo this procedure, while in Bnei Brak hospital all women were sent to him. A spokesman for Maanei Ha-Yeshua said that this operation can not be carried out only at the request of a woman - for this, good reasons are needed. However, the Ministry of Health and the practice of appealing to the rabbis strongly disagree and intend to deal with this issue as soon as possible.
