

On Tuesday, August 8, medals were given to the Righteous Among the Nations by the families of five Poles who harbored Jews during the Holocaust. The award of the Jerusalem memorial center "Yad Vashem" was given to Kazimir and Veronika Kotsan, who hid the Jewish family, and Stanislav and Anna Tomchak, who sheltered the Jewish boy.
The fifth awarded was Francis Abramovich, who during the war hid in the basement of a Jew. After a neighbor denunciation, she hid it in the forest and wore him food until the situation calmed down.
Poland ranks first in the number of Righteous Among the Nations. According to Yad Vashem, at the beginning of 2017 it was known about 6706 people who saved Jews during the war. During the Holocaust, about 3 million Jewish population of Poland died, almost 85%.
