In 2016, about 324,000 men and 308,000 women aged 20 or younger were more or less traumatized from abusive or violent acts. This is reported on August 8 by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
Most of all this group of people suffered from thefts (4.4%). Insults suffered 3.8% of the victims. From violence or threats of violence - 3.1% and from sexual harassment - 2.3% of the total number of victims.
At the same time, the percentage of women affected by sexual harassment is higher than that of affected men for the same reason. But from the thefts, an approximately equal number of both men and women were affected.
However, among the children and adolescents, the most affected were the violence and threats of violence. But there is a big difference in the number of children affected in the Arab and Jewish sectors. In the Arab sector, victims of violence or threats of violence were only 3% of the total number of children in Arab families, and in Jewish sector - 8.9% of the total number of children in Jewish families.
The CSB also cites data on thefts - in total in 2016 more than a quarter million thefts were committed. Basically, the thefts were committed from apartments and a small fraction of them - from cars. Most of the thefts were committed in Tel Aviv and in Judea and Samaria. The least amount of thefts was observed in the south of the country.
85% of the residents of the country over the age of 20 said they feel safe when they are alone in the evening and night hours on the street in the area where they live (93% of the men said this and 77% of the women).
